Green Gram Peanut Salad


Green Gram Peanut Salad is a completely a boiled food, high in proteins and low in calories. The steamed whole green gram are seasoned with spices and fresh grated coconut, which adds taste to this dish. The dish belongs to mainly the South-Indian cuisine. Here the recipe requires no prior preparation, which makes a very easy instant dish anytime.


Ingredients:

1. Green gram/mung dal - 1 and half cup
2. Peanuts - 1/4th cup
3. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
4. Black gram/Urad dal - 1/2 tsp.
5. Bengal gram/Channa dal - 1/2 tsp.
6. Curry leaves - 5 to 6 leaves
7. Green chillies - 2 no.
8. Grated Coconut - 2 tbsp. 
9. Oil - 1 tsp.
10. Salt to taste

Cooking Method:

1. Clean the green gram and peanuts in water, and bring it to boil adding water and salt. It can also be pressure cooked. Make sure, it does not get mushy.

2. In the mean time, chop the green chilies and arrange all the other ingredients.

3. Once the green gram and peanuts are done, separate it from the water (the water can be used for soups).

3. For seasoning, heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add bengal gram and black gram. Once this turns light brown, add green chilies and curry leaves. Pour this on the green gram, peanuts and toss it up. Finally garnished with few grated coconut though purely optional.

4. This dish is an excellent meal, served along with juice or soups of your choice.

Note:

1. For added taste, chopped onions can be used in the dish

2. Finally chopped ginger also can be used for the flavour especially during winters.
